Four days in a bus, 80 hours on the road and around 4.000 kM distance... from Dar Es Salaam (in Tanzania) to Windhoek (Namibia). It's the kind of trip that you will remember for all your life, specially if you are a hockey players going to play for the first time ever in your life a hockey tournament to represent your country. This is the experience that 32 young boys and gilrs coming from different part of Tanzania, enjoyed a few weeks ago. For Tanzania it has been the first time ever to participate with two U21 national teams to the biggest competion in Africa, the Junior Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament was played in Windhoek, Namibia, from the 18th to the 28th of March 2016. Tanzania girls classified 4th, losing the matches against South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and winning against Botswana. The mens team came in fifth, after South Africa, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Namibia. Considering that most of the tanzanian hockey players have started playing less than one year ago and that this was their first international experience, the participation to this tournament has been a fantastic opportunity for them and a great step forward in hockey development in Tanzania. Finally, two Tanzanian players have been awarded as best players at the tournament: Flora Chigoma for the women team, and Fred Friederik from the men team receiving the award of "Upcoming best player" at the Africa Cup of Nation. COngratulation to Flora and Fred, to all the players and coaches, to all the parents, to our sponsors and to all the people who are working hard for the development of hockey in Tanzania!
